Date: August 25, 2016
Architect and collector, David Thompson, will explore the history of architectural and engineering drawing instruments from ruling pens to computer-aided design within the larger topic of architectural practice from antiquity to the present day. Specialist instruments made specifically for architecture such as the volutor and architectonic sector illustrate the conformity of the profession in the 18th and early 19th centuries while today's computer modeling tools enable exploration of unlimited form. His talk will be illustrated with images and examples from his world-class collection of instruments.
