Follow in the footsteps of the Marquis de Lafayette, America’s favorite fighting Frenchman!
Led by Glenn Campbell, retired Historic Annapolis Senior Historian, this walking tour traces the itinerary of General Lafayette’s 1824 visit to Annapolis, with a few asides to sites he knew from his earlier trips to Maryland’s capital city in 1777, 1781, and 1784.
Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather, as the tour is held rain or shine. The tour route is approximately 1.25 miles long and includes elevation changes and uneven walking surfaces. The tour will begin at the Maryland Inn on Main Street and conclude at the Maryland State House on State Circle.

About Our Presenter: Glenn E. Campbell grew up in New Jersey, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, and served eight years as a Naval Flight Officer and History Instructor. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and was on the staff of Historic Annapolis from 1997 to 2001 and again from 2003 to 2022, recently retiring as Senior Historian. He has presented numerous lectures on local history topics and received the 2020 Heritage Leadership Award from the Four Rivers Heritage Area.
