Preservation Award Winner to Give Lecture on 18th Century Architecture
Date: Capital Gazette, August 22, E.B. Furgurson III
Architect and collector David Thompson will explore the history of architectural and engineering drawing of the 18th and early 19th centuries in a lecture at the James Brice House Thursday evening.
He will blend discussion of early drafting and drawing instruments within the larger context of architectural practice from antiquity to the present, from the limits of the profession brought from specialty instruments to the freedom today's compute- aided design affords.
Thompson is a recently retired architect and collector of architectural instruments who won a Historic Annapolis Preservation Award for his restoration work at the Naval Academy.
The program, sponsored by Historic Annapolis and the Four Rivers Heritage Area, begins at 6:30 p.m. at James Brice House, 42 East St., Annapolis. Admission is $10, and $8 for members and volunteers, and free to members of the Curator's Circle.
Tickets may be purchased on the Historic Annapolis website at www.annapolis.org, or by calling 410-267-7619.
